Why Templated Assessment Reports Are Holding Your Coaching Practice Back
You have built a great assessment. The questions are sharp, the scoring dimensions are well thought out, and the completion rate is solid. But when respondents get their results, something falls flat.
The report says "You scored in the Growth Zone for leadership. Consider focusing on delegation and communication skills." And the person reading it thinks: that could have been written for anyone. Because it was.
The Template Problem
Most assessment platforms work on a bracket system. You define score ranges - say 0-40%, 41-70%, and 71-100% - and write the feedback copy for each bracket. Everyone who lands in the same bracket reads the same text.
This made sense when the alternative was writing individual reports by hand. If you have 50 respondents, writing 50 unique reports is not realistic. Templated brackets were the practical compromise.
But the compromise has costs.
Two people can score 68% for completely different reasons. One might be strong on strategy (9/10) but weak on execution (4/10). Another might be consistently moderate across all dimensions (6-7/10 on everything). The templated report treats them identically. The coaching they need is completely different.
Respondents can tell. When someone spends 10 minutes thoughtfully answering your assessment and receives generic feedback, it undermines trust. They know the report was not written for them specifically - and it makes the whole exercise feel less valuable.
It limits your follow-up. A templated report does not give you specific talking points for a coaching conversation. You still have to review their individual answers manually to prepare for the session.

Imagine two people both score 72% on your leadership assessment. With templated reports, they both get the "Growth Zone" text you wrote.
With per-respondent AI analysis, the reports diverge:
Person A receives: "Your strategic thinking scores are notably strong (92nd percentile in this dimension), suggesting a natural ability to see the bigger picture. The opportunity lies in identifying which dimension to develop as a standout strength - your answers on questions 3 and 7 suggest communication could be that area."
Same score. Completely different insights. Both useful. Neither could have been generated from a template.
The Manual Alternative (and Why It Does Not Scale)
Some coaches solve the template problem by writing individual reports manually. This produces excellent results - there is nothing better than a thoughtful, hand-crafted coaching report.
But it takes 20-30 minutes per respondent. At 50 respondents per month, that is 16-25 hours just on report writing. For most coaching practices, this is not sustainable as a business model.
